Trip Information

The Kanchenjunga Trek is one of the most famous third highest mountains treks in the world. It provides an opportunity to trek in the wilderness and unspoiled north-eastern part of Nepal. Located in the Taplejung District on the border side of Sikkim and Tibet, Kanchenjunga is well-known for its natural beauty; three river valleys called The Ghunsa Khola, Simbua Khola, and the Tamur Valley. Some trekkers also regarded Kanchenjunga as a Gift to the Earth. The major attraction of the Kanchenjunga trek are splendid views of the Kanchenjunga Massif, various beautiful rivers, varied landscapes of enchanting rhododendron forests, and unique and rare flora and fauna including orchids, alpine, bamboo, oaks, red panda, Asiatic black bear, musk deer, snow leopard, and many more. During our pleasing trail, we can view magnificent mountains such as; Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Makalu, Jahnu Himal and many other stunning peaks. Kanchenjunga is rich in ethnic diversity and various cultures, where more than 11 ethnic communities including Rai, Chettri, Limbu, Brahmins are settled. This amazing trek was officially opened in 1988, and it is filled with cultural heritages such as; ancient monasteries, Hindu temples, Prayer-walls, Chhortens, several Passes including the Mirgin La pass and many more.
This beautiful trek in the remote area begins from Kathmandu with an elegant scenic flight to Bhadrapur and a drive to Taplejung. Walking through the lush rhododendron forests, climbing into the high alpine terrain beyond the various ethnic settlements, viewing astounding views of Mt. Kanchenjunga from different angles is really mesmerizing. The Kanchenjunga trekking trail is indeed an exploratory trekking trail, where you can meet with an indigenous group of people like Rai, Limbu and many more and observe their interesting lifestyle and their way of living. Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m /4,264 ft)

  • Pick up from Airport and transfer to hotel.
  • Rest in the hotel.
  • Enjoy welcome dinner
  • Stay overnight at hotel. 

Day 2: Kathmandu: sightseeing and trek preparation

  • Morning breakfast
  • Visit major UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu; Pashupatinath,  Swayambhunath Stupa, Kathmandu Durbar Square and Bauddhanath Stupa.
  • A brief explanation about the further trek.
  • Overnight in Kathmandu. 

Day 3: Fly from Kathmandu to Suketar (2,420m/7938ft), trek to Lalikharka (2265m/7,431ft)

  • Morning breakfast.
  • Take a scenic flight to Suketar
  • Begins with simultaneous ascent and descent trail.
  • Follow the beautiful lush green forests all the way to Lalikharkha.  
  • Overnight at Lalikharka.

Day 4: Lalikharka to Khesewa (2120m/6,955ft)

  • Morning breakfast
  • Easy descent until Phundrawa.
  • Steep climb and reach to Yangpang and then to Phumphe Danda
  •  Ascent to Khesewa, through forests and small villages.
  • Overnight in Khesewa. 

Day 5: Khesewa to Mamankhe (1785m/5,856ft)

  • Morning breakfast and departure
  • Trek through the Kabeli Khola.
  • Cross the beautiful forests before.
  • Enjoy amazing views of the Himalayan peaks
  • Overnight in Mamankhe.  

Day 6:  Mamankhe to Yamphudin (2080m/6824ft)

  • Morning breakfast and departure
  • Trek uphill on an easy trail alongside the Kabeli Khola.
  • Admire the beautiful ridge.
  • Enjoy viewing a beautiful waterfall
  • Cross a small suspension bridge.
  • Pass small settlements and reach Yamphudin. 
  • Stay overnight at Yamphudin.

Day 7:  Yamphudin to Tortong (2,995m/9,826ft)

  • Morning breakfast
  • Continue trek through terraced farms and green meadows.
  • Enjoy the magnificent view of Himalayas.
  • Trek along the Amji Khola.
  • Pass at Lassila Bhanjyang before reaching Tortong.
  • Overnight in Tortong.

Day 8: Tortong to Cheram (3,870m/12,696ft)

  • Morning breakfast
  • Climb steady by the side of the Simbuwa Khola.
  • Enjoy walking on the beautiful Lalung valley and have Tuplung peak.
  •  Pass thick rhododendron forest and enjoy the magnificence of the Yalung Glacier.
  • Overnight in Cheram.

Day 9: Cheram: Acclimatization and Rest

  • Morning breakfast
  • Rest in Cheram
  • Make a small hike.
  • Explore the areas around the Yalung Glacier.
  • Enjoy magnificent views of Kabaru and Rathong peaks from the viewpoint.
  • Overnight in Cheram.

Day 10: Cheram to Ramchaur (Ramche) (4,580m/15,026ft)

  • Morning breakfast
  • Ascend for a while and reach snout of the Yalung Glacier.
  • Cherish the views of several Himalayan peaks.
  • Pass through a small settlement of Lapsang
  • Reach to Ramche.
  • Overnight in Ramche. 

Day 11: Ramchaur (Ramche) to Yalung Base Camp (4500m), back to Cheram

  • Morning breakfast and departure
  • Climb on the moraine top until confronted by Kanchenjunga’s southern face.
  • We walk further ahead for a glimpse of the Jannu Himal. 
  • trek further towards the Oktang Monastery.
  • Climb further up and reach the Yalung Base Camp.
  • Enjoy great views of Mt. Kumbakarna (Jannu), Nyukla Lachung and other Himalayan peaks
  • Descend down and spend the night at Cheram.

Day 12: Cheram to Sele La (4290m/ 14,074ft)

  • Morning breakfast
  • Trek crossing four passes and reach to Sinelapche Bhanjyang.
  • Continue trek to Mirgin La pass and Sinion La pass
  • Ascend to Sele La pass.
  • Enjoy viewing prayer flags and reach to the Sele La pass.
  • Overnight in Sele La. 

Day 13: Sele La to Ghunsa (3,595/11,794)

  • Morning breakfast
  • walk towards the north with Tangbgharma Danda nearby.
  • Enjoy prayer flags in chorten
  • Descend through rhododendron, birch and pine forests and reach to Ghunsa.
  • Witness dark and weathered pine walls and Buddhist prayer flags.
  • Overnight in Ghunsa. 

Day 14: Ghunsa to Kambachen (4,050m/13,287ft)

  • Early breakfast
  • Enjoy magnificent mountain scenery as you begin the trek.
  • Pass through meadows filled with beautiful wildflowers, then cross rhododendron and pine forests.
  • Cross a bridge at Rampuk Kharka,
  • Enjoy witnessing waterfall and cross the tricky section of a landslide.
  • spectacular view of Mt. Jannu.
  •  Arrive at Kambachen and spend the night.

Day 15: Kambachen to Lhonak (4,780m/15,682ft)

  • Morning breakfast
  • Trek through quite a tough trail (rocky fields and large boulders on the hillside)
  • Trek along the riverbank and enjoy viewing a waterfall.
  • Cross a bridge to Ramtang monastery.
  • descending to the beautiful river and finally arrive at Lhonak.
  • Overnight at Lhonak.

Day 16: Kanchenjunga base camp, overnight at Pangpema (5,143/16,873ft)

  • Morning breakfast
  • trek towards the Kanchenjunga Base Camp.
  • Trek through the gigantic Kanchenjunga Glacier.
  • Pass beautiful Pangpema
  • Descend towards the Kanchenjunga Base Camp.
  • Enjoy the magnificent view of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Jannu Himal, and other Himalayan peaks
  • Descend back to Pangpema and stay overnight. 

Day 17: Pangpema to Lhonak

  • Morning breakfast
  • Trace back our steps to Lhonak.
  • Overnight in Lhonak.  

Day 18:  Lhonak to Ghunsa (3475m/11,400ft)

  • Morning breakfast
  • Descend down to Ghunsa via Kambache.
  • Overnight at Ghunsa.

Day 19: Ghunsa to Amjilosa (2,308m/7,572ft)

  • Morning breakfast
  • Descend towards Phale.
  • Witness several beautiful Manes and monastery.
  • Trek through the Juniper forests and reach Phale.
  • Trek steady descent to Gyabla.
  • Cross a bridge over Chhundatangka Khola and reach Gyabla.
  • Enjoy beautiful waterfall and cross a suspension bridge over Sumbung Khola
  • Reach at Amjilosa and stay overnight in Amjilosa.

Day 20: Amjilosa to Chirwa (1,270m/4,166ft)

  • Morning breakfast
  • Continue trek and enjoy viewing a beautiful waterfall nearby.
  • Pass a small settlement of Solima and cross a suspension bridge over Ghunsa Khola.
  • Cross another beautiful suspension bridge over Ghunsa Khola and reach Sukathum.
  • Cross several villages; Thunsa Khola, Tamor Nadi ,Chirwa and many more.
  • Overnight in Chirwa. 

Day 21:  Chirwa to Phurumbu (1,549/5,082ft)

  • Morning breakfast
  • Descending through the several settlements.
  • Trail follows the lush vegetation and several villages and reaches to Sinwa.
  • Descent down and cross a bridge over the Sisne Khola.
  • Pass through another village and cross another suspension bridge over the Yaphre Khola
  • Reach Phurumbu and stay overnight in Village. 

Day 22: Phurumbu to Suketar

  • Morning breakfast
  • We end Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek today.
  • Trek to Suketar and take a rest over there.
  • Walk on the Pathibhara Trek trail and stay overnight at Suketar.

Day 23: Fly to Kathmandu

  • Morning breakfast
  • Fly back to Kathmandu.
  • Rest for few hours and can-do souvenir shopping in the evening.
  • Enjoy farewell dinner for successful completion of our Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek.
  • Overnight in Kathmandu. 

Day 24: Final departure

  • Hotel breakfast and check out
