Trip Information

The amazing Makalu Circuit trek is one of the well-known treks in the pristine Himalayan landscapes in Nepal. Although the trekking trail is quite challenging, the awe-inspiriting views of the stunning Himalayas giants such as; the Kanchenjunga, Everest, Makalu, Ama Dablam, Cho Oyo, Lhotse, Baruntse, Pumori, Thamserku, and many other peaks makes this trek one of the best trekking experiences in your life. The Manaslu Circuit trek will surely fulfill your desire of adventure by offering these amazing passes namely Sherpani Col (6110m), West Col (6140m) and Amphu Laptsha (5850m) during your trail. We will begin our trek after explorations of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu Valley. You will discover the Pashupatinath Temple, Swyambhunath temples, Buddhnath Stupa, and Royal Kathmandu Durbar Square. 
The amazing flight takes us to the beauty of Tumlingtar, after our breakfast and hotel checkout at Kathmandu. Appalling views of the snow-capped peaks resting below during the flight is the sweet beginning of our Makalu Circuit trek. As we reach to Tumlingtar, we will officially begin our trekking with the stunning views of the Himalayas. In the beginning, we will trek through genital trail and the trail goes through the agricultural farmlands, rhododendron forests and charming traditional villages such as; Khandbari, Chichila, Mudhe, Seduwa and many more. We will continue mostly gradual ascend trails onwards Makalu Base Camp, Swiss Base Camp, Sherpani Col Base Camp then to Mt. Baruntse Base Camp followed by adventurous high passes. During our trekking trail, we will also get chances to encounter with the different ethnic people and observe their unique culture and traditions is really rewarding. Day 1: Arrival at TIA Kathmandu (1350m) & Transfer to the Hotel.

  • Overnight at the hotel. 

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing

  • Early morning breakfast.
  • You can visit the world heritage sites of Kathmandu Valley with our guide.
  • Explore Pashupatinath Temple, Syambhunath temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Kathmandu Durbar Square.
  • Prepare all the essential factors needed for the further trek
  • Overnight at hotel.

Day 3: Kathmandu to Tumlingtar flight and trek to Khandbari. 1040m (4/5 hrs)

  • Morning breakfast.
  • Take a domestic scenic flight to Tumlingtar.
  • Enjoy aerial views of breathtaking snow-capped Mountains such as; Ganesh Himal to Mt. Everest, Makalu, and Mt. Kanchenjunga during the flight.
  • Drive to Khandbari, a small Gurung village. 
  • Overnight at Khandbari.

Day 4: Trek from Khandbari to Chichila. 1980m (5/6 hrs)

  • Morning breakfast.
  • Continue trek towards Chichila by passing Mane Bhanjyang. 
  • A quiet and slow-paced walk through the beautiful and picturesque villages and lush mountain forests.
  • Reach to the beautiful Chichila village and explore this beautiful village.
  • Encounter with the village people.
  • Stay overnight over there.

Day 5: Trek from Chichila to Mudhe. 1945m (5/6 hrs)

  • Morning breakfast and departure.
  • As we continue our trek, we will get an impressive view of the Makalu. 
  • Continue trek through the village of Kuwapani and crossDaju La Pass 2100.  
  • Continue to walk descend through the steep section of the forest to reach the large village of Mudhe. 
  • Stay overnight at Mudhe.

Day 6: Trek from Mudhe to Seduwa. 1500m (5/6 hrs)

  • Morning breakfast and departure.
  • Continue trail by gently descending down to reach the Arun Nadi. 
  • Enjoy crossing a suspension bridge.
  • Climb up following a dense forest towards a large trading village of Seduwa. 
  • Register trekking permit at the National Park office at Seduwa. 
  • Stay overnight at Seduwa.

Day 7: Trek from Seduwa to Tashigaun. 2100m (5/6 hrs)

  • Morning breakfast.
  • Continue trek, a short and pleasant walk about 3-4 hours to Tashi Gaun.
  • Cross a small village of Narbugaun and continue to trek through the hillside by following quiet villages.
  • Further trek through the hillsides forest and cultivated fields.
  • Reach the exotic village of Tashi Gaun.
  • Overnight at Tashi Gaun. 

Day 8: Trek from Tashigaun to Khongma. 3500m (6/7 hrs)

  • Morning breakfast.
  • Continue trek bypassing the human settlement.
  • The way may be a bit tough today.
  • Walk on a steep trail in higher elevations. 
  • Trek through the refreshing, beautiful shade of the rhododendron oak forest, then leaving the dense forest.  
  • The trail of Kharka is steeper. 
  • This finally follows a series of rough stone stairs and small lakes ascending to the top of the ridge.
  • Trek a short distance towards Khongma Danda. 
  • Overnight at Khongma Danda.

Day 9: Trek from Khongma to Mumbuk. 3540m (6/7 hrs) via Shipton La

  • Morning breakfast and departure.
  • we continue our trek by crossing Khongma La Pass with the magnificent views of Makalu, Chamlang, Baruntse, Kanchenjunga, and Jannu.
  • Further climb leads us to the Tutu-La Pass and descends to a large lake – Kalo Pokhari. 
  • Further, ascend towards Shipton La Pass and enjoy magnificent views of Chamlang range and Tibet to the north.
  • Continue a steep and rocky descend from the top of the pass and reach to the campsite of Mumbuk. 
  • Stay overnight at Mumbuk.

Day 10: Trek from Mumbuk to Nele Kharka. 3700m (6/7 hrs)

  • Morning breakfast and departure.
  • Continue trek through descending downhill to reach Barun Nadi.
  • Climb up along the steep hillside and follow lose the ground trail.
  • After a few hours of walking takes us to the Nele Kharka. 
  • Stay overnight at Mumbuk.

Day 11: Rest Day

  • Today is our rest day at Nele Kharka. 
  • Stroll around the Kharka Village and meet with the People.
  • Make a short hike for splendid views.
  • Be prepared for the next day trek.
  • Stay overnight at Nele Kharka.

Day 12: Trek from Nele Kharka to Merek. 4340m (5/6 hrs)

  • Morning breakfast and departure.
  • Continue trek from Nele Kharka, 
  • walk through easy trail and cross the Barun Nadi. 
  • The further trek will cross to the grassy fields of Yangri Kharka.
  • Follow the trail passing through rhododendron, pine and fir filled forest towards Langmale Kharka. 
  • Continue trail through the ancient lateral moraine through which Barun Nadi flows. 
  • Enjoy exploring glacial lake to the left.
  • Further, an easy trail takes you to Merek.
  • Stay overnight at Merek.

Day 13: Trek from Merek to Makalu Base Camp. 5000m (5/6 hrs)

  • Morning breakfast and departure.
  • Continue trek by following the right trail and climb up to moraines. 
  • Enjoy the stunning views from the top.
  • After exploration, you will descend gradually and cross a small bridge.
  • The further trek will follow the stone huts of Makalu Base Camp.
  • As you reach the Makalu Base Camp, enjoy the best mountain views.
  • Stay overnight at Makalu Base Camp.

Day 14: French Camp

  • Morning breakfast and departure.
  • Continue trek from the Makalu Base Camp and pass the famous Hillary Base Camp.
  • Further, walk along a smaller trail on the south side of Barun Glacier Valley and reach to the French Camp. 
  • Stay overnight at French Camp.

Day 15: East Col Camp

  • Morning breakfast and departure.
  • Continue trail and climbs towards a steep boulder-filled gully. 
  • Further, ascend trail will leads us to East Col Base Camp at the snout of a glacier.
  • Stay overnight at East Col Camp.

Day 16: Trek to Baruntse Base Camp via Sherpani Col. 5700m (7/8 hrs)

  • Morning breakfast and departure.
  • Begin trek and leave East Col Camp.
  • Continue trek and cross the challenging pass Sherpani Col. 
  • Follow the trail by the side of the glacier and climb towards the prayer flags.
  • The route is quite tough so it requires a fixed rope and hand lines to reach the top of the Sherpani Col.
  • Start to descend down to West Barun Glacier and further trek will leads you to camping site at Baruntse Base Camp. 
  • Stay overnight Baruntse Base Camp.

Day 17: Trek from Baruntse Base Camp to Seto Pokhari.

  • Morning breakfast and departure.
  • Continue trek towards Seto Pokhari by following the Peak 41 and Hunku Peak.
  • The further trail goes lower regions of Seto Pokhari. 
  • Stay overnight at Seto Pokhari.

Day 18: Trek from Seto Pokhari to Amphu Laptsa High Camp. 5400m (6/7 hrs)

  • Early morning breakfast and departure
  • Continue hike along the rugged moraine way onwards Imja Valley.
  • Enjoy with the panoramic views of the high Himalayan peaks including Lhotse and Everest toward on the north-west.
  • As you reach to Amphu Laptsa base camp, explore the camp.
  • Stay overnight at Amphu Laptsa High Camp.

Day 19: Cross Amphu Laptsa pass (5851m) and trek to Imja Valley. 5100m (6/7 hrs)

  • Morning breakfast and departure.
  • Continue trek and cross a most dangerous pass in Nepal.
  • Be careful while climbing.
  • The climb includes icy slopes and snow-covered trails.
  • We need full climbing equipment’s during your trek. 
  • As you reach to the top again you will descend downhill following the steep rocky trail passing through Amphu Laptsa Glacier and towards Imja Valley. 
  • Stay overnight at Imja Valley.

Day 20: Trek to Lobuche via Kongma La pass. 4940m (6/7 hrs)

  • Morning breakfast and departure.
  • Continue trek through the Imja Valley by following Chukung.
  • The further trek will follow the route to Kongma La Pass. 
  • After crossing the Kongma La Pass, we further trek ahead and reach to Lobuche. 
  • Stay overnight at Lobuche.

Day 21: Trek from Lobuche to EBC and Gorakshep. 5450m (5/6 hrs)

  • Morning breakfast.
  • Continue trek almost 2 hours to reach Gorkshep, at the altitude of 5,160m.
  • Enjoy beautiful views of Mt. Everest, Pumori, and other so many Himalayan ranges. 
  • At Gorkshep, take lunch and continue trek Everest Base Camp.
  • Trek around 4 hours to reach Everest Base Camp.
  • Enjoy the spectacular views of the Khumbu Icefall from the world-renowned Mt. Everest Base Camp. 
  • Overnight at Base Camp.

Day 22: Early morning hike to Kalapatthar and trek to Pheriche. 4371m (5/6 hrs)

  • Trek early in the morning around 4 hours before having breakfast. 
  • Ascend around 2 hours with a stunning view of Mt. Everest and Pumori to reach Kalapathar.
  • Enjoy the hilarious views of the Mt. Everest behind it. 
  • See the phenomenal sunrise from the Kalapathar. 
  • Trek back to Pheriche.
  • Stay overnight in the Pheriche. 

Day 23: Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar. 3440m (5/6 hrs)

  • Early morning breakfast.
  • Your trek destination starts from the Friche to Namche Bazaar. 
  • Cross the forests of blue pine and beautiful red rhododendron.
  • Reach to Namche Bazaar 
  • Overnight at Namche Bazaar.

Day 24: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla. 2860m (6/7 hrs)

  • Morning breakfast
  • Trek back to Lukla from Namche Bazaar through the rocky terrain.
  • Trek downhill alongside the Dudh Koshi River. 
  • Cross several beautiful suspension bridges
  • Explore the several monasteries and village and reach Lukla.

  • Overnight in Lukla.

Day 25: Flight Lukla to Kathmandu and back to the hotel in Kathmandu.
