Trip Information

The Tiji Festival is one of the very important spiritual festival celebrated in Lo Manthang, the walled city of Upper Mustang region. Also known as the “The chasing of the Demons”, the Tiji festival is where people unusually celebrate three days of rituals which represents the myth of Tiji. This famous festival tells a story of Dorje Jono deity, he battled with the demons father and save the Kingdom of Mustang. Observing this unique festival will provide you a long-lasting experience in the Upper Mustang region. This region itself is known as a fascinating hidden paradise within the Mustang region. It is one of the wonderful trekking destinations that provide you chances to explore the mystical valley of Mustang. Trekking through the desert landscapes and encounter with the traditional Nepali settlements and their interesting culture is another unforgettable experience that this trek offers us. Besides the landscape the Upper Mustang region is filled with some of the most fascinating Tibetan culture and buildings. Short Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu, we will pick you at the airport and free transfer to hotel. 
Day 02: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing in the UNESCO World Heritage sites. 
Day 03: Drive to Pokhara by tourist coach (200km).
Day 04: Fly to Jomsom from Pokhara (25 minutes), trek to Kagbeni (2800 m.) 3 hours walk.
Day 05: Kagbeni –Chaile (10004ft. 3050m). 4/6 hours walk. Day 06: Chele – Giling (11709ft. 3570m). 5/6 hours walk.
Day 07: Giling - Charang (11677ft. 3560m). 5/7 hours walk.
Day 08: Charang - Lo Manthang (12,238ft. 3,730m). 4/6 hours walk.
Day 09: Observe the Tiji festival at Lo-Manthang.
Day 10: Observe Tiji Festival at Lo-Manthang.
Day 11: Hike and explore surrounding, Visit the villages, monasteries and the King’s palace.
Day 12: Lo-Manthang - Ghami (3,460m/11,352ft). 5/7 hours walk.
Day 13: Ghami – Samar (12004ft. 3660m). 4/6 hours walk.
Day 14: Samar - Kagbeni (9216ft. 2810m) – Jomsom. 5/6 hours walk.
Day 15: Jomsom – Pokhara. Fly to Pokhara from Jomsom.
Day 16: Pokhara – Kathmandu, drive 200km. your guide will transfer you to the hotel.
Day 17: Kathmandu rest day and farewell dinner.
Day 18: Fly back home or extend your trip as per your interest. 

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing

  • Early morning breakfast.
  • You can visit the world heritage sites of Kathmandu Valley with our guide.
  • Explore Pashupatinath Temple, Syambhunath temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Kathmandu Durbar Square.
  • Prepare for the next day trek.

Day 3: Drive to Pokhara/800m (2624ft)

  • Morning breakfast.
  • Drive 200km to Pokhara and it takes about around 7 hours from Kathmandu.
  • Enjoy an exciting and romantic drive.
  • Enjoy the beautiful scenic view of terraced rice field, eye-catching landscape, Trisuli and Marsyangdi Rivers and spectacular panoramic view of Manaslu, Lamjung Himal, Ganesh Himal, and most of Annapurna Himalayan range.
  •  Overnight at Pokhara. 

Day 4: Pokhara – Jomsom/2720m – Kagbeni/2810m

  • Morning breakfast.
  • Take a flight to Jomson.
  • Make a short preparation, and begins to trek along the bank of Kaligandaki River.
  • Explore the little pretty village of Kagbeni which is North of Jomsom.
  • We need to walk around three to four hours.
  • Overnight at Kagbeni.

Day 5: Kagbeni –Chile (10004ft. 3050m)

  • Morning breakfast.
  • Take a permission in the Police Check Post at the north end of Kagbeni Village and enter into the Upper Mustang area.
  • Continue trail through the east bank of the Kali Gandaki and climbs over many ridges as it heads north.
  • Explore the Gompa Kang & some caves on the west bank of the river.
  • Follow the village of Tangbe, situated alongside the east bank of the river at an elevation of 2930m.
  • Enjoy the views of Nilgiri Peak, and southern skyline at Kagbeni.
  • Explore the Chhuksang village and Tangbe by following the Arshang Khola and the Kaligandaki.
  • Continue trek to the north and climb.
  • Leaves the Kaligandaki Valley and climbs steeply up a rocky gully to and Chele at 3030m.
  • Overnight at Chaile.

Day 6: Chele – Giling (11709ft. 3570m)

  • Morning breakfast.
  • Continue to climb up a steep spur to a cairn at 3130m.
  • Enjoy the view of the village of Gyagar across a huge canyon.
  • You will see some Chortens on a ridge, then descends further on a pleasant trail to Samar (3290m).
  • You can enjoy witnessing the Annapurna Himal, which is dominated by Nilgiri,.
  • Climbs gently from Shyangmochen to a pass at 3770m & enters another huge east-west valley.
  • Continue trek and descend to Geling with its extensive fields of barley at 3600m.
  • Overnight at Giling.

Day 7: Giling - Charang (11677ft. 3560m).

  • Morning breakfast and departure.
  • Continue trek by climbing gently through passing below the settlement of Tama Gung and a Chorten.
  • Continue trek climb across the head of the valley to the Nyi La pass at 3950m, the highest point.
  • Enjoy the beautiful view of the Valley below.
  • Continue the descent trek and pass the Nyi La and the Tangmar Chu.
  • During the trek enjoy with the longest and most spectacular stretch of Mani wall.
  • The further Climb over another pass at 3600m, you need to trek in a long gentle descent route and reached to Charang at 3520m.
  • Overnight at Charang. 

Day 8: Charang – Lo-Manthang (12,238ft. 3,730m) 

  • Early morning breakfast and continues trek towards Lo- Manthang.
  • Trek descend about 100m from Charang by following the Charang Chu.
  • Trek through the steep climb up, a rocky way and pass the Tholung valley.
  • Climb gently as the valley climbs to a largely isolated chorten that marks the boundary between Charang and Lo.
  • Continue climb and cross a stream, and enjoy witnessing desert-like a landscape painted in every hue of gray and yellow.
  • Climb up onto the plateau of Lo Manthang.
  • Explore several monstrous Tibetan Mastiffs.
  • Hear barking angrily at the second story of the palace.
  • Enjoy the festival in the afternoon.
  • Overnight at Lo-Manthang.

Day 9: Observe Tiji Festival at Lo-Manthang.

  • Early morning breakfast.
  • Observe the Tiji Festival and enjoy.
  • Learn unique things about the culture.

Day 10: Observe Tiji Festival at Lo-Manthang.

  • Early morning breakfast.
  • Observe the Tiji Festival and enjoy.

Day 11: Hike and explore surrounding, Visit the villages, monasteries and the King’s palace

  • Morning breakfast and continue trekking.
  • Hike up to Lo-Manthang and enjoy the sour rounding.
  • Explore the village and talk with the people around there.
  • Discovers the ancient monasteries.
  • Visit the famous forbidden King Palace.
  • Overnight at Lo-Manthang.

Day 12: Lo-Manthang - Ghami (3,460m/11,352ft)

  • Morning breakfast and departure.
  • Explore the villages and continue trek to Charang.
  • Continue trek and pass the Lo Gekar and climbs steadily and pass market with the magnificent views of the last glimpse of Lo Manthang.
  • Descend down to the valley and cross the bridge at 4070m and traverse across the heads of two more valleys to an indistinct pass.
  • Cross the pass to some meadows and a stream.
  • The further trail will be a long rocky descent down a ravine to a grassy valley where Lo Gekar is situated.
  • Lo Gekar (which means" pure of the virtue of Lo") is also known as Ghar Gompa."House Temple".
  • Explore the structure of the building.
  • Discovers the small village nearby a Marang and below that Charang.
  • Climb to a ridge and explore pass 200m above Lo Gekar.
  • Descends alongside the stone walls and fields of the extensive village, and reach to Ghami at 3440m.
  • Overnight at Ghami.

Day 13: Ghami – Samar (12004ft. 3660m) 

  • Morning breakfast.
  • Continue trek by following the direct route to the Nyi La.
  • Climb to a cairn on a ridge and then contouring upwards to meet the trail from Charaing.
  • Continue to the pass and descend steeply into the Geling valley.
  • Follow the trail by passing Geling to an isolated tea house.
  • Descends gently to the three houses of Tama Gung.
  • A steep set of switchbacks leads to a stream, then the trail climbs to a huge painted Chorte.
  • The trail rejoins the Gelling near the ride, just below a Chorten and the remainder of the day is on already traveled trails back to Samar.
  • Overnight at Samar.

Day 14: Samar - Kagbeni (9216ft. 2810m) - Jomsom

  • Morning breakfast.
  • Continue trek upward back to the Kaligandaki and downstream to Kagbeni.
  • As you reach to Kagbeni, take a Jeep ride to Jomsom.
  • Enjoy scenic surroundings during our trail.
  • Overnight at Jomsom.

Day 15: Jomsom – Pokhara

  • Morning breakfast.
  • Take an air flight to Pokhara from Jomsom.
  • As you reach paradise city Pokhara, rest and relax for few times.
  • Stroll around Fewa Lake and around the city.
  • Enjoy boating in the Fewa Lake.
  • Visit Mahendra cave, David's fall, and many more.
  • Enjoy magnificent views of the Himalayas; Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Dhaulagiri, Himalchuli, Annapurna, Everest and many more.
  • Stay overnight in the hotel

Day 16: Pokhara – Kathmandu

  • Morning breakfast.
  • View impressive mountain view with the golden glow of the sun.
  • Drive back to Kathmandu from Pokhara.
  • Transfer to hotel by your guide.

Day 17: Kathmandu rest day.
